Most Evil App Ever
Hello.
Today is an unfortunate day as I think I maye have found quote possibly the most shitty evil app on the app store, but firt I should give a little context. This summer as some of you may know, I am working at a camp for people with disabilities. Some of these disabilities people have may be things like autism or cerebral palsy, but other times it can include things like being nonverbal, which is where what I found out about comes into. Today we did our training recap on AAC Devices, now what are AAC devices? Well it's an acronym for augmentative and alternative communication device. These can be a lot of different things. If you've ever watched hector from breaking bad you've seen an AAC when the nurse uses the piece of papers with letters on it that hector uses to spell out words.
Anyways back on topic, an AAC device is essential to help nonverbal people communicate and live their daily lives. It lets them let people know when they need to eat, use the restroom, when they need water, and a whole bunch of different things. One of these AAC devices I had seen in my time at camp was an app called TouchChatHD. Now this is a quaint little app which lets someone touch a button to say words or phrases. I've had campers that used this app before, and had only good experiences with it, that is until today.
When we were going over AAC Devices, I discovered how much it costs to download the app. Now before I say the price I want you to come up with a price for the app in your head. Think of how much you would charge for this app if you had created it. You might think that it should be free, since it's something that nonverbal people need to be able to properly communicate in their day to day lives. Now I'll play devils advocate and say that while I personally think it should be free, it does make sense that someone would charge a few bucks for it. It's an incredibly useful tool, and while it isn't the fanciest looking app you can clearly tell someone put a lot of hard work into it, and once you have it it's yours forever and you'll certainly get a lot of use out of it. It makes sense that the company that made it might charge a little but for it. This a useful but simple app that allows you to form sentences by pressing buttons. Now again I want you to think in your head what you think would be a reasonable price. Ok you have the number in your head?
The app is not 1 dollar
Not 5 dollars
Not 10 Dollars
Not 25 Dollars
Not 50 Dollars
Not 75 Dollars
Not 100 Dollars
Not 150 Dollars
Not 200 Dollars
Not 250 Dollars
Three
Hundred
Dollars
I am dead fucking serious.
And the fucked up part? This seems to be the standard for most speaking apps on the app store. Sure there are some free ones, but they're never going to have the same amount of features, which is just so fucking lame.
On the website of the company who makes the app they state that "For over 50 years, PRC has been a leader in giving a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves" UNLESS YOU DONT HAVE 300 FUCKING DOLLARS CAUSE THEN YOU CAN JUST EAT SHIT.
Anyways what was the point of this . I dont know, other than it suck how expensive it is to be disabled. It makes you think like they should have a healthcare system that is focused on getting people the care they need rather than giving insurance companies money. If only there were places on earth like that.
Oh Well..
