I FUCKING HATE TEACHING PART 2
(Song is Paradise Paradise, Piano Cover, by Unidentification)
Hey all! It's good to be back on the website. As you can tell, I've been very busy, mostly with school, AND COLLEGE. DID I MENTION THAT I'M TAKING COLLEGE CLASSES DURING THIS? GOD, I HATE MY LIFE.
Anyhoo, I think it's time I deliver on my promise for a part two. Last time we talked mostly about my experience with the math curriculum. Today we get to talk about my annoying ass students! You may think that sounds a little harsh, but you'll come ton understand my point of view.
Firstly, and the most important thing, they never shut the hell up. Ever. It drives me insane. They always have something to fucking say! Here is how a lesson will typically go. I will get up to the front of the class and start walking, and someone will just blurt some random bullshit without me calling on them or anything. Or alternatively, I will call on someone to answer something or give their thoughts, and suddenly every single kid is butting in with their opinion on the person who raised their hand's comment. Within 5 seconds, every single person in the class is talking. It's like the scene in finding Nemo with the pelicans all saying "MINE MINE MINE MINE".
The other scenario where they talk is in the hallway. For the life of me, I don't know why they can't wait less than a minute to get to where we're going to talk, but they have to talk to their dumbass friends while walking down the hallway. What the fuck is so important that it can't wait literally one minute! And I've listened to these kids talk. They have nothing of value to talk about.
For whatever reason, my students have decided that during morning work, it's a great idea to talk about their stupid ass crushes in my classroom. It drives me fucking crazy. One of my students said they were "in a talking stage" with someone. WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE IN A TALKING STAGE?!?!?! YOU'RE A 6TH GRADER!!!! YOU'RE TWELVE YEARS OLD!!! YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS!!!! SHUT THE FUCK UP AND DO YOUR GODDAMN WORK AND TALK ABOUT FUCKING K-POP DEMON HUNTERS INSTEAD LIKE GOD INTENDED!!!
Ok. I got a little heated there. I'm just very frustrated. These kids are so goddamn annoying, and they never listen to me, and they are just so rude in general. I suppose I should talk about my other major gripe with them, that being all the drama.
Now, I knew before I got assigned this class that they were big drama queens. Constantly bickering over the smallest garbage. But I didn't realize how bad it would get. One of my students actually had to transfer schools because of how bad one girl was bullying her. And it really sucked because that was one of my favorite students! She was really smart and nice and funny, and now she's out of my class because the most obnoxious student wouldn't shut the hell up.
That student, who we'll call S, has been a huge issue for me the entire year. She's the aforementioned student who was talking about being in a "talking stage". She is always interrupting me, not following directions, and bullying other girls over the smallest shit. One time she and some other girls basically had us stop our ELA rotations because they had to go down to the office right that instant to report some girl for doing some mundane bullshit. It was so unimportant that they didn't even mention what it was at the meeting with the principal we had. And after our meeting with the principal, nothing changed. I think it's gotten worse, actually. All these kids care about is getting attention because their parents don't give them any.
I try to be understanding with these kids, because a lot of their parents are fucking whacked out of their minds. Whether that's just being dumb or addicted to drugs, a lot of these parents suck ass. However, there comes a point where you gotta take responsibility and stop being such a nuisance to everyone else in your life. I know people like this, who have shitty parents who suck ass, and guess what? They're still pleasant people to be around, because they put effort into being good people. Now, is this something I should expect from 6th graders? Probably not. However, I'm still allowed to feel frustrated.
I don't know. I think I'm too much of a pushover for this class, They mostly just walk all over me as I'm too worried about unfairly enforcing the rules. That's why I've been going over expectations before activities lately, which has made it a little better. Hoping to make thing better during next semester. I have this big, evil ass list of rules I'm going to go over with them. Hopefully this helps. If not, at least I only have less than half the school year with them.
Well, What do you think? Do I suck ass as a teacher? Am I the problem? Or do you agree hat my students are demons? Let me know in the Cbox on the side!
